Hello, I’m Gurpreet Juneja, the lead designer at Suhaus Designs. I’ve been fortunate to explore the heart of Japan, the enchanting city of Kyoto. This city seamlessly blends ancient culture with a modern touch, providing a wealth of inspiration for my work. Join me on this virtual journey as I share how Kyoto’s unique fusion of tradition and modernity has influenced my design philosophy.
Kyoto’s Cultural Riches:
Once the capital of Japan, Kyoto is renowned for its Shinto shrines, imperial palaces, zen gardens, and traditional wooden homes. As a designer, walking through the city feels like a stroll through time, surrounded by the beauty of shrines and gardens that showcase centuries of cultural evolution.
Japanese Interior Design:
Kyoto is the soul of Japanese interior design, rooted in simplicity, mindfulness, and functionality. The city’s emphasis on clean lines, natural materials, and neutral colours resonates deeply with my commitment to creating peaceful and calm atmospheres in our projects.
Nijo Castle And Preservation Of History:
Nijo Castle, with its preserved original interiors, stands as a testament to Kyoto’s commitment to preserving history. The intricate carvings and paintings from bygone eras are a profound source of inspiration, reminding us of the importance of honoring our roots.
Zen Gardens And Nature Integration:
A stroll through the Zen Gardens at Nijo Castle reveals the serene convergence of stone, water, and plants. It’s a valuable lesson on incorporating nature into our projects to combat the stresses of daily life. This philosophy guides our designs, creating spaces that promote tranquility.
Kyoto Tower’s Incongruous Charm:
Kyoto Tower, standing incongruously amid ancient surroundings, perfectly captures the city’s ability to blend the old with the new. This fusion is a design goal for Suhaus Designs, creating spaces that harmonize tradition and modernity.
Bamboo Forests And Spa Escapes:
The enchanting Bamboo Forests of Kyoto inspired our project – a Japanese spa adorned with stone carvings depicting the beauty of bamboo. Stepping into our spa transports nature lovers to a heavenly escape, mirroring the awe- inspiring experience of walking through Kyoto’s bamboo groves.
Imperial Gardens As Landscaping Inspiration:
The Katsura Imperial Villa and Kyoto Imperial Palace, with their ever-changing foliage, serve as landmarks of traditional Japanese gardening. This inspires us at Suhaus Designs to create landscaping that remains interesting throughout the seasons, embracing simplicity as a fundamental aspect of Japanese design.
Golden Pavilion’s Visual Delight:
The Golden Pavilion, a Zen temple adorned with gold on its top two floors, surrounded by beautiful water bodies and tea gardens, captivates the senses. This visual delight has influenced our approach to creating spaces that evoke a sense of calmness and appreciation for Japanese culture.
My visit to Kyoto has enriched my perspective as a designer, guiding me in
